It’s crazy the fight Zeefuik had today. 180% effort, the terrier!
It’s no secret Cuisance is one of the best midfielders in the league, but today was absolutely top class. Not only technically, but also in terms of work with the ball, it is always exceptional.
And the 16 year old boy was particularly, very, very dominant. I’m known on the forum for not overdoing young players too early and I sometimes like to pump the brakes, but the way Eichhorn has once again completely put his stamp on the game is nothing short of fantastic.
Especially since he becomes more courageous from match to match and in 1v1 situations he often had several Schalke players on the roller coaster at the same time, in one situation even against 4 Royal Blues. And for his 16 years, he is physically incredibly strong and tall and knows how to use it intelligently. Many (including experts) compare his playing style to a Toni Kroos, which is understandable, but I think he is more like a Sergio Busquets IN THE WAY OF PLAYING. Germany will soon have a lot of fun with this boy at international level, as the national team has been lacking this type of player for many years.
Unfortunately, in Berlin we probably won’t be able to admire it in blue and white for that long and the exit clause, which has often been talked about recently, is hardly a consolation, because it is well below the market value. Without this, it would not have been possible to extend the contract, so we had to accept it willy-nilly, so that at least this season we would have a lot of fun with Kennet.
Can we get promoted this season? No idea. The team is not bad, but it also has glaring weaknesses, for example in attack, where Kownacki has unfortunately rarely been fully available and Schuler – despite some important goals – simply does not have the same impact in the game with the ball as Kownacki. Reese, although he has already scored reasonably, is physically far from the explosiveness of the last two seasons and Winkler fluctuates a lot in his performances. We are therefore too few on the offensive wings.
The numerous injuries and failures also seem to continue, which is absolutely not optimal if one wants to slide towards the top. I don’t expect us to finish top three, but of course I hope so.
