Successful UWCL revenge: Bayern dispatch Barcelona 3-1 at home

24,000 spectators saw FC Bayern take revenge against FC Barcelona at the Allianz Arena in Munich. If Barca triumphed 3-0 in the first leg, Bayern overturned the result this time and with the 3-1 win they took three important points to head into the quarter-finals. Lyon, Benfica and Arsenal were also able to win their games.

Bayern maintain advantage against Barcelona

What a birthday present Klara Bühl gave herself this Wednesday evening. Because she marked the day of her 22nd birthday after a few minutes of play against FC Barcelona to bring the score to 1-0. That goal was already in sight as the hosts went on the offensive early on and put Barcelona under pressure.

Courage was the key word for the Munich women in front of the record audience at the Allianz Arena. And the way the game started, it continued. In the 10th minute, Lea Schüller put Lina Magull in the limelight and she overcame the Spanish defense again. 2-0 – it smelled of revenge after the 0-3 loss in the first leg.

Bayern have been controlling Barca for a long time

Fast, smart, powerful: the Munich team showed their best (Site notre bureau spécialisé) team that night. And Barcelona? The guests didn’t seem to know how to deal with the Bavarian offensive. Although Barcelona came into the game more and also put the hosts under pressure – but FC Bayern initially decided the game. That only changed in the last ten minutes before half-time and Magull and Co. were able to enjoy the break after a period of pressure from FC Barcelona.

From the guests’ point of view, it was clear that Bayern could not continue like this. And the team around superstars like Aitana Bonmatí also showed that in the second half. While Barcelona brought all their game intelligence onto the pitch, Bayern only cared about preventing the goal. But at least it worked – also because Mala Grohs was there in the Munich team box.

Schüller scores, Geyse da Silva follows suit

‘Barcelona make the game, Bayern score the goal’ was the only fitting comment in DAZN’s live stream in the 60th minute. After a cross from Magull, it was Lea Schüller, who was previously on the ground with knee problems, who extended the lead to 3-0 with a header. And that was important too. Because: Barça stayed tuned and when the last female Grohs went too far from the box, Geyse da Silva scored the goal.

The last 20 minutes of the game were a tour de force for Bayern. After all, it was all about keeping score and getting a perfect revenge against FC Barcelona. The Spaniards gave everything to turn things around. But without success. Even the total of 16 (!) corners scored by the guests was not enough to get closer to the Munich team. And after 90 minutes, the stadium fans duly celebrated them.

Group D: Benfica beat Rosengard

For FC Rosengard, the dream of progress is over. The 3-1 loss to Benfica on Matchday 4 saw the Swedes lose the top two spots in Group D. For Benfica, on the other hand, everything is still open. However, the team still have to play against Barcelona and Bayern, against whom the Portuguese have already lost in this UWCL round. Even 0-9 against Barça.

Lyon win against Zurich, Arsenal Juventus

In Group C, Lyon clarified who had been the favorite against Zurich. The French swept away the Swiss guests 4-0. Even in the 94th, Lyon remained a goal threat and did better just before the final whistle. Zurich is eliminated, a place in the first two is no longer possible for the Swiss.

If Lyon hadn’t won, Arsenal would have reached the quarter-finals by beating Juventus 1-0 on Matchday 4. Vivianne Miedema scored after 15 minutes and announced the next three points for her side, who lead Group C with ten points.
