Leandro Trossard (28) scored a hat-trick in the 3-3 win over Liverpool in October – this time the Belgian winger isn’t even included in Brighton & Hove Albion’s squad for Saturday’s game against the Reds. The reason is coach Roberto De Zerbi, who doesn’t count on his top scorer.
Update from January 18, 5:56 p.m.: Coach De Zerbi once again commented on « Repubblica » about the Trossard cause: « Nothing serious happened at Trossard. But lately he hasn’t given himself 100% to the cause. « Training and match day is all on my side. (Site notre blog d’information) deserves respect. I don’t have to apologize for anything. (…) Maybe his adviser is considering t he to sell him for a lesser transfer fee. Trossard certainly wasn’t telling me the truth. Everyone in the locker room knows how it went. But if Trossard wants to come back to us with the right attitude, I’ll be happy to coach him, » the coach said (quoted via fabrice romano).
Trossard’s agent Josy Comhair recently made accusations against the manager and urged his client to leave in January: « It’s important that Brighton cooperate and show a sympathetic attitude to any potential transfer during this transfer window. both parties would benefit » (quoted by Fabrizio Romano).
De Zerbi, according to the adviser, has not spoken to the Belgian World Cup driver for four weeks, only about him: « After the World Cup, there was an argument between Leandro and another player because of « One small thing, since then, the coach hasn’t spoken to him again. » As a result, Trossard lost his starting spot, had to train away from the squad and was kicked out of the squad. squad for the home game against Liverpool. « Last Monday, the coach ridiculed Leandroo in front of the squad and indicated that he didn’t want to see him anymore. A coach who doesn’t talk to the player for four weeks is really incomprehensible, » said Comhair.

The agent also identified the reason for De Zerbi’s change of heart: « Before Leandro flew to Qatar, it was Brighton’s intention to extend with him. It didn’t happen because that no agreement has been reached. Leandro has indicated that he is ready for the next step. » On January 3, the ‘Seagulls’ withdrew the club’s option in the Belgian’s contract, which was dated until 2023, and extended it until 2024.
Brighton manager De Zerbi on Trossard: attitude problem
Coach De Zerbi commented on the matter (as quoted via Telegraph): « It’s not good. I spoke to him on Monday and told him that I didn’t like his attitude and behavior. He knows very well that if he wants to play for Brighton, if he wants to play for me, he has to work hard, run and behave well We are not a team like Real Madrid or Barcelona – we are Brighton and we need players who (…) If he wants to play, I am ready to hear his opinion.” Tottenham would be the party most interested in Trossard’s services.
Trossard joined KRC Genk in 2019 for €15.6million and has been directly involved in 39 goals in 121 games since then. This season, alongside world champion Alexis Mac Allister (24) and German Pascal Groß (31), he is the most accurate player in De Zerbi’s squad with seven goals. According to Trossard and his advisers, his 4-2 loss to Arsenal on December 31 was his last for the Seagulls. Comhair said De Zerbi ‘repeatedly indicated that a transfer would be the most pleasant solution’.
